More news on Methods of Mayhem from rollingstone.com:
Tommy Lee Talks Methods of Mayhem: Fred Durst, Kid Rock and possibly Dave Navarro line up for Lee's solo project.
"I've been waiting for the opportunity for a long time," says former Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee regarding his solo
project, Methods of Mayhem. "To go and do something that has no musical boundaries, no pre-conceived anything...I don't
have to sit in a room and get an okay from three other guys regarding direction or a part of this or that. It's just like,
'do you love it?' 'Yeah, I love it, let's f---ing do it.' I'm f---ing losing my mind, actually." That's merely low-octane
T-Bone. Ask him about his pet project, the Crue's VH-1 Behind the Music special or even tartar control and his response will
be filled with enough expletives and exuberance to put Eric Cartman to shame. Lee says the Methods album is three-quarters
complete and has a tentative release date of Nov. 9 on MCA Records. "[MCA] are just doing their final f---ing paragraph A
bulls---, but it's done," he says. "They're over here every day." Here is producer Scott Humphrey's studio in Hollywood,
Calif. Humphrey, known for his work with Rob Zombie and the Crue, first began working with Lee in 1996 for the Pamela
Anderson film Barb Wire. Then, the two collaborated on the song "Welcome to Planet Boom" for the film's soundtrack. Thus
far, Lee has compiled quite the laundry list of guest stars for Methods: Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst, Snoop Dogg and
Lil' Kim, whom Lee affectionately calls "nasty bitch," have all contributed to the album. Other artists slated to appear on
the album include Busta Rhymes and Nine Inch Nails guitarist Danny Lohner. His wish list contains Korn's Jonathan Davis and
Scott Weiland, whom he says would be perfect for a song called "Best Friend." Lee describes the record's sound as "a new
hybrid version of hip-hop, metal, techno, [and] f---ing jungle. I got so many different flavors, it's really hard to say
what it is. I don't even know what the f--- it is. I just know I love it." As far as touring plans go, former (hed) pe
member Tim Dog, the Beastie Boys DJ Mixmaster Mike and former Jane's Addiction/Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Dave Navarro
may provide the method to his mayhem. With regard to Navarro, Lee says "he was down to do some parts on the record and
do some touring as well. I'm just waiting for him to finish the solo thing he's working on so he can confirm." Lee and Co.
are in talks to open Family Values '99, which tentatively has Limp Bizkit, Filter, Redman, Method Man and DMX on board.
"I'm just excited to go out and f---ing tear it up." Lee says he has no regrets about leaving the Crue and is considering
seeing them live when they come to town with the Scorpions next month. "That'd be pretty interesting," he says. "If I'm not
doing anything or not busy that night [Aug. 13 at the Universal Amphitheater in Universal City, Calif.], I might consider
popping in to check it out." With as many shows as the Crue's played in the last eighteen years, Lee's never seen a one,
so the spectator role may be quite the revelation. "I would get f---ing jealous when the guitar players could go out with
their wireless f---ing setups on and see what the band sounded like," he says. "And I'm stuck behind the drums so I don't
know what Motley Crue sounds like live. No f---ing clue, so maybe I better go check it out. I don't know if it's a good
thing or bad thing."
