A review from www.inverse-music.com

CD Reviewed : Tommy Lee - "Never A Dull Moment" (MCA, May 2002)
Reviewer : Andrew Hill
Date Reviewed : April 07th, 2002
Tommy Lee, former Motley Crue drummer, decided to go it alone on this record after amicably
parting ways with Methods of Mayhem's rapper, Tilo, in 2000. The result of this is an amazing
album that comes straight from the heart of Lee himself. "Never A Dull Moment" takes a totally
new direction for Lee, sounding nothing like what he brought to the table with Methods of Mayhem
or other past works.
Vocally and lyrically, Tommy Lee has poured out his heart and soul on this effort, with energetic
melodic rhymes and throaty yells. Lee handles all the vocal duties, drumming duties and a great
deal of the guitar duties on this album while Marty O'Brien, who also played with Methods of
Mayhem, takes hold of the bass duties. The true talent and magic of Lee as a song writer, singer
and all-round musician is shown perfectly on this album.
The album kicks off with an edgy, melodic track called "Afterglow", which grabs your attention
from the beginning and makes you want to listen to what else Lee has to offer. "Higher" is another
powerful track that deserves a mention. With the chorus, "All my peoples in the pit, let me see
you jump; Never ever gonna quit, let me see you jump; Let's bring this motherfucker down, don't
give a shit; All me peoples in the pit, let me see you jump", it is sure to be a crowd favorite
when the band hit the road. We also see a couple of guest appearances throughout the album.
Deftones frontman, Chino, shares a verse with Lee in "Ashamed", a soft track with soaring
strings. While Brandon Boyd, Incubus frontman, also makes an appearance doing back-up vocals
on a beatiful melodic song called "Blue". A magneficent cover of David Bowie's "Fame" also
appears on the album under the name "Fame 02".
Tommy Lee's passion and drive for music is what makes this album such a joy to listen to.
In my opinion, this album is going to be one of the major releases of 2002. The diversity
of this album is what sets it apart from other recent releases that have plagued us with
the same sounding shit. Make sure you pick up this album when it is released and check out
Tommy Lee, with his new live band behind him, on tour. |

Can't Hold Tommy Down
from www.accesshollywood.com:
Access Hollywood's Pat O'Brien was with Tommy Lee on the set of his music video for
"Hold Me Down," the first single off his new album, Never a Dull Moment. It's an appropriate
title for the rocker who is in the center of a bitter child custody battle with his ex-wife,
Pamela Anderson. For legal reasons, the court case was off-limits when Pat hit the set, but
Tommy was candid about how it has influenced his new album.
Pat: Does it speak to anything in your life? Should this have been named No More Drama like
Mary J. Blige?
Tommy: I think Never a Dull Moment is really appropriate for this record.
Pat: Is this record about you or about somebody else?
Tommy: No, it's just appropriately titled. It's just the way my life is. There is always
something going on, good, bad or whatever.
Indeed, Never a Dull Moment is an appropriate title for Tommy Lee's new record, but for a
change the latest news on Tommy is good. Thanks to radio play, the new CD is already getting
high marks from fans. "People are calling up saying 'Whoa, that track is amazing.' It's just
real positive feedback, " said Lee.
In the video, Tommy is flying sky-high. He takes to the air with a troop of floaters from
Cirque de Soleil. "To watch bodies in motion and they're floaters flying around -- I'm mesmerized.
I'm sitting there trying to sing the song and I'm like, 'It's hard to concentrate.'"
When not on the set, Tommy told Access that he enjoys watching old pal Ozzy Osbourne on his
hit MTV reality series.
When asked if the show was a true depiction of Ozzy, Tommy said: "Yeah, it's pretty real. It's
the guy I know. That's definitely Ozzy.. can't get anything to work, shaking. That's him man,
that's him."
This summer, Tommy will be going on tour the same time as Ozzy's "Ozzfest" hits the road.
Tommy joked about the dueling concerts saying: "Hey Ozzy, I've got two words for you
bro...Tommy Fest."
